Attention RCTC youth members & parents!

RCTC is raffling off six free race entries for the Thomasville YMCA youth triathlon to be held on Saturday, September 10.  Please comment on the Facebook post on our member page to be entered into the drawing. Joy at Dash will do the drawing on Friday!!!!!!  Take advantage of this opportunity for your youth member to receive a free race, great experience, and have a super fun time!

GA Vets Reminders

Saturday’s Georgia Veterans Triathlon and Post Race Picnic are quickly approaching! The food has been ordered. The pavilion has been reserved. You are trained and ready. Everything is in place for a fabulous day of racing and camaraderie!

A couple of things to remember:

  • RCTC Group photo at the swim start at 7:45.
  • We will meet at Pavilion #2 (near the beach area) after awards at 11:00.
  • Bring chairs – there are picnic tables but you may prefer to sit near the water or in the shade.
  • Lunch will arrive around 11:45. Water and Gatorade will be provided as part of the meal. If you want to partake in adult beverages remember to bring a cup/water bottle. It is against park rules to drink alcohol in the public-use areas. So, if you want to drink alcohol you’ve got to keep it discreet or risk being ticketed by the park ranger. (It has happened, folks!)

Good luck to everyone who is racing! See you on Saturday!

Race Recap

Hi guys!

Quick shout out to Grady Smith for placing 3rd overall last weekend in the Jax Tri Series Race #2 – Olympic Distance. And congrats to Leisa Eastman on a 13.1 Trail Race called The Scream in NC.

That’s it for now… Please remember to send race reports, updates and interesting info to Brianna using THIS FORM!

Thanks. And stay hydrated out there!

GA Vets Post Race Picnic!

The deadline to RSVP for the GA Vets Post Race Picnic is tomorrow.  Please RSVP on Facebook or by emailing before the end of the day tomorrow, July 27th.   Please specify the number of adults + kids in your family. We are extending the due date for the $10 payment per family.  Be sure to leave your RSVP payment  (made out to Renee Moss for RCTC)  in the mailbox at Dash by Saturday, July 30 so you will be counted!

And don’t forget that RCTC members enjoy a discounted race entry fee, so please check your discounts sheet (in your email). Thanks!

Hi team!

As my home/work life continues to grow, it’s time for RCTC to evolve once again. I love our group immensely and am so grateful for your energy, faith and enthusiasm over the past 4 years. I hope to see RCTC continue to grow and thrive, so I’m nominating Joy Knop to take over primary leadership duties as President, supported administratively by her DASH staff. I’m also nominating Lacey Harrison to take over as Treasurer. Both ladies have graciously accepted, and Joy has nominated Katina Stewart to take over as Secretary, giving race updates and helping with posts to the website, etc.

If you have questions or concerns (or would like to volunteer to take on a leadership role), please let us know. These changes take effect August 3. I’ll continue to contribute graphic design/marketing and advisory services as long as you all want me to. Here’s what our leadership team looks like going forward:

President – Joy Knop
Administrative Support – Alison Cohenour
Treasurer – Lacey Harrison
Ad Sales – Lance Parker
Secretary – Katina Stewart
Race Results Coordinator – Leisa Eastman
Social Chair – Alison Parker
Event Support – Susan Bennett + Brianna Prinsloo
Gear Design/Marketing – Renee Moss
Swim Clinics – JT Harrison + Angie Badley
Bike Clinics – Chris Stroh
Run Clinics – Chad + Bev Johnson

It’s a pretty fantastic group of people and athletes, don’t you think?

You’ll notice we don’t really have a VP. Maybe instead of having a VP, we just have Clayton and I simply hanging on as advisors. Or maybe not; maybe someone else wants to jump in  and be a VP. You tell us! This is your club, and all Team Moss did was get it rolling for the love of swim, bike, run and all of you.

This isn’t going to impact your lives in a big way. It impacts mine more than anything! Honestly, from the member stand-point, the only changes are that the club is now fully established (90+ members strong!), and we’re placing it in your hands. Ta-dah!

Please share your input. Email us, post to us, text…Whatever works for you!

And THANK YOU to all of the terrific people that are leading RCTC into the future!

Hooray for our athletes who found the time, energy and heat tolerance to compete last weekend, including:

Grady Smith, Leisa Eastman and Max Eastman, who all ran the Capital City Kiwanis Firecracker 5K in Tallahassee. Props to Grady on a 1st place AG!

Newcomer Rosalie White raced the Freedom Springs Triathlon in Marianna, bringing home hardware for a 1st place AG, as well!

Colin Prinsloo competed in the hot and windy Chattanooga Waterfront Tri and posted a 2:25 finish time. Meanwhile, his speedy bride Brianna brought home an overall win at the Valdosta 5K.

Great job, everyone!

Post-Race Member Picnic

It’s time to RSVP for our annual post-race picnic.

Saturday, August 6 at 11:15 AM – 1:45 PM

Lake Blackshear Resort,
2459 US Highway 280 W, Bldg H, Cordele, Georgia 31015

As always, you’re welcome to bring immediate family, and cost to attend is $10 per family. You can drop your payment off in the RCTC mailbox at Dash. We will be serving up some lunch following the race awards, so please join us!

Please RSVP by July 27th by posting on the FACEBOOK event page and specifying number of adults + kids in your family. The $10 payment per family will also be due on July 27 to reserve your spot. If your kids eat like adults (even if they are 7-y-o), they are adults. 😀 You can drop payments at DASH made out to Renee Moss for RCTC.

And don’t forget that RCTC members enjoy a discounted race entry fee, so please check your discounts sheet (in your email). Thanks!

Happy Summer!

Hooray! Summer is here, and the creases of my knees are already sweating profusely while I stand still. Anyone else?

Congratulations to recent Ironman Raleigh 70.3 Finishers:
Conley Wilhelm (winner of the RCTC FREE 70.3 giveaway!)
(Coach) Jo Curry (19th AG; her 9th 70.3 completion!)
Leisa Eastman
Lance Parker

Kristi Wilhelm, Alison Parker, and Max Eastman get a round of high-fives for being standout super-sherpas…and thanks to Alison for officially volunteering at swim start, representing RCTC. Thanks, support crew!

Big props to Charlotte + Jay Harrison on their completion of Splash & Dash (Youth Triathlon Series, Race #2 – Tallahassee), for which they both scored some super cool medals for their growing collection. (They are clearly competing with mom + dad.)

We had a great group participate in Encounter 316, racking up tons of hardware and looking as though they had a blast! Congrats to:
Beverly Johnson – 1st place Overall Female (5-mile),
Chad Johnson – 1st place Master; 2nd place Overall (5-mile),
Lance Parker – 3rd place Overall; 1st place AG (5-mile),
Robin Cartright – 1st place AG finish (5-mile),
Susan Bennett – 1st place AG finish (5-mile),
Lori Richardson – 1st place AG finish (5-mile) (SIX WEEKS POST-BABY!),
Tina Carson – 1st place AG (5K),
Alison Parker – 1st place AG (5K),
Joy Knop – 2nd place AG (5K),
Sam + Lola Parker – 1 mile run!

Brianna + Colin Prinsloo raced the Tybee Island Sprint, but Colin flatted, leaving Brianna with all the family glory for the day, as she brought home a 2nd place AG award. Brianna was joined on the podium by Billy Webb, who also snagged an AG award.

Meanwhile, Donica Williams placed 2nd in her AG at the Loop the Lake 10K.

Lance Parker (5th Overall / 4th male, PR), Chris Stroh (3rd place Overall), Paul Pickles and Melissa Thompson all participated in the Ride for Hope. Chris was blazing fast; Clayton and I were driving through Monticello and saw him leading a breakaway with police escort! Jeff Drawdy was there, too, looking sharp in RCTC flair, and we so enjoyed seeing the pictures of everyone. Way to go, team!

Lastly, Clayton + Renee Moss skirted off to the Flowers Sea Swim 5K (Grand Cayman), which they managed to complete with a bum shoulder and bronchitis (fools!). The gimps were happy (+ twitchy) at the finish, even though they are both horrible at spotting buoys in chop and somehow swam more than 3.8 and 3.7 miles, respectively, instead of the required 3.1. It was a great workout—completed within the required timeframe—with stingrays and blazing fast competition! If you need a good laugh, ask to see Renee’s Garmin map.

We hope everyone is having a fun summer. Alison Parker (+Co) is working on plans for a post-Georgia Veterans Sprint Triathlon get-together, so stay tuned. And please pencil that in on your calendars for August 6th.

If we missed anyone’s race results, please holla! Thanks to Leisa for chasing down this info for us! Check out the photos on the RCTC private FB page.

Be safe out there, friends.

Memorial Weekend In Review

Hi all!

We hope you all had a fantastic weekend, filled with lots of R+R or Training Time (…maybe some of both!), Family-and-Friends time, and happy moments of gratitude for all that we enjoy.

Everyone, please welcome another new member, Maureen Harrer!

The ladies made it happen last weekend on the race courses…

Last weekend, Katina Stewart (winner of the FREE DRCSports race entry!), Joy Knop and New member Rosalie White zipped on down to Crystal River for Sprint #1 in the series, and all 3 represented in Winged Warrior gear. The ladies had a blast at this fun and well-organized event, and Rosalie brought home some 1st place AG hardware. Way to go, ladies!!!

Brianna Prinsloo logged a blazing fast Memorial Day 5K in Valdosta, posting a 22:36 (WOW! A 40 second PR!). She finished as 2nd overall female and 1st in her age group.

Robin Cartright ran the Bainbridge Memorial Day 5K and posted her own PR as well, scoring a first place in her in age group.

Who else raced? Let us know! And check out the private FB page for photos.

It’s not too early to start planning for the Cordele weekend festivities…And that means the Georgia Veterans Triathlon and post-race cookout/picnic. So please save the date for this event. We always have a huge turn-out and lots of fun. So stay tuned for details!

Congrats also to Chad and Beverly Johnson on their performances at Gulf Winds Trail Series Race #1. Beverly finished as 6th female and is currently second in AG standings after this first race in the series. Chad placed 11th overall (9th male) and is currently 1st in AG standings. Great job, guys!

Good luck to Katina Stewart, Joy Knop and  Rosalie White, all racing DRCSports Crystal River #1 this weekend. Is anyone else racing this weekend? Let us know.

And don’t forget to complete Leisa’s handy form on the FB private page by Tuesday morning, so we can share your results with the group.

Thanks, all!
